I bought my first Alpha Daytona almost 15 years ago. I still wear it on a regular basis. Over the years I bought the silver/black and then the red dialed versions. Each have been better than the last, with my one point of contention, the lume getting steadily better with each version. My recent purchase is the black/white dial. It is the best one yet. First, the lume is the brightest of all 4 watches and is visible throughout the night. For the surface area the lume has, it is impressive. Then you have the dial itself. Gone is the “chronometer” moniker on the dial, replaced with the proper “mechanical chronograph” wording. It has a beautiful display back to show off the manual winding movement. And what a movement it is…all of the watches that I have had with this movement have been rock solid. Now I rarely use the chronograph feature, but when I do, everything works. And honestly there is something very satisfying in winding a watch every morning. Needless to say I LOVE this watch and am proud to wear it in rotation with much more expensive watches from both Rolex and Omega. I do have one negative for this version…the crystal….Alpha has upgraded the previous domed acrylic crystal with a flatter, hardened mineral crystal. It is supposed to be stronger, and it probably is…but I miss the warmth and slight distortion that you get from an acrylic crystal. It makes the vintage-inspired Alpha Daytona that more vintage. The “upgraded” crystal aside, this is a wonderful watch, and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase.
